
Injured hiker rescued from Appalachian Trail in Delaware Water Gap
KNOWLTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Warren County) – Emergency crews responded Thursday morning to rescue an injured hiker on the Appalachian Trail in the Dunnfield Creek area of the Delaware Water Gap, according to Knowlton Township Fire and Rescue Company.
At approximately 11:20 a.m., Station 41 was dispatched alongside Portland Hook and Ladder Company, Atlantic EMS, and St. Clare’s Medic to assist with the extraction. The hiker was located about a half-mile up from the I-80 West parking area.
The injured individual was carried out of the woods in a stokes basket and transported by Atlantic EMS and paramedics to Jefferson-Lehigh Valley Pocono Medical Center for treatment of a leg injury.
Additional assistance was provided by the New Jersey Park Police, New Jersey Forest Fire Service, U.S. Park Rangers, Stillwater Fire Department Station 42, and Blairstown Hose Company Station 46.
Knowlton Township Fire and Rescue thanked all responders for their efficiency and teamwork, and offered a reminder for hikers to hike safely, dress appropriately, bring water and a cellphone, share hiking plans, and stay alert to wildlife.
