Injured raccoon rescued from atop utility pole in Morris County

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, NJ (Morris County) — Firefighters from Parsippany District 5 proved that emergency response isn’t always about fires or car crashes — sometimes it’s about helping animals in need.

On the afternoon of April 16, the department was called by Parsippany Animal Control and Shelter to assist with rescuing an injured raccoon stranded at the top of a utility pole in Parsippany-Troy Hills.

Fire crews responded to the scene after Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) arrived to secure power to the area. Once it was safe, a firefighter was able to climb up and safely secure the raccoon without incident.

The animal was then handed over to Parsippany Animal Control, which ensured the raccoon received the proper care. Fire personnel operated on scene for just over 30 minutes before returning to service.
