Juvenile charged after car stolen from Paterson found crashed in Washington Township, Morris County

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A Bergen County juvenile has been charged after a stolen vehicle was found crashed and abandoned in February in Washington Township.

In the early morning hours of February 10, a vehicle stolen Paterson was found crashed and abandoned on Fairmount Road. A search of the area was conducted using a Morris County K-9 Unit but the suspect(s) were not located at that time, police said.

The Washington Township Detective Bureau processed the stolen vehicle and multiple latent fingerprints were developed during processing, police said.

One of the latent fingerprints returned as a hit for a juvenile offender who had been previously arrested and fingerprinted. Other information was also developed on the juvenile suspect along with latent fingerprint hit, police said.

A second suspect was developed but through an interview at a county jail in New York State on June 30, the second suspect was found to not be in the vehicle on the date of the crash, police said.

The Washington Township Detective Bureau charged a North Arlington juvenile on May 31 with third-degree receiving stolen property and a court date will be issued by Morris County Superior Court, police said.
