Labor Day traffic enforcement in Morris, Warren and Sussex counties results in 358 stops, eight arrests
NORTHWEST, N.J. — A multi-agency traffic enforcement initiative conducted across Morris, Warren and Sussex counties over Labor Day weekend resulted in 358 motor vehicle stops, 103 summonses and eight arrests, according to the Mount Olive Township Police Department.
More than 40 officers participated in the high-visibility enforcement effort, which focused on aggressive driving, speeding, distracted driving, seat belt violations and driving while intoxicated.
Police said officers issued 103 summonses for various traffic violations. The enforcement effort also resulted in three arrests for outstanding warrants, three arrests for driving while intoxicated and two arrests for possession of controlled dangerous substances with intent to distribute.
The initiative included the Mount Olive Township, Roxbury Township, Washington Township, Hackettstown, Stanhope, Chester Township, Byram Township and Netcong police departments, along with the Morris County Sheriff’s Office.
“Labor Day weekend brings increased traffic volume to our roadways, making proactive enforcement especially important,” Mount Olive Township Police Chief Michael Cordileone said. “The collaborative efforts of these agencies helped improve roadway safety through a visible police presence and focused enforcement. We appreciate the hard work of all officers involved and the cooperation of the motoring public.”
The initiative was conducted during the Labor Day holiday weekend as part of an ongoing effort by the participating agencies to reduce serious crashes and promote safe driving.
Police reminded motorists to obey posted speed limits, avoid distractions, never drive while impaired and ensure all vehicle occupants are properly restrained.
