Project Self-Sufficiency to host Pregnancy & Infancy Summit for new and expectant parents
NEWTON, N.J. (Sussex County) — Project Self-Sufficiency will host a Pregnancy & Infancy Summit on Saturday, March 14, offering expectant and new parents information, resources and free supplies to support maternal and child health.
The event will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the agency’s Mill Street location and will feature pediatrician Dr. Christian Canzoniero as the keynote speaker. Organizers said the summit will focus on critical issues faced during pregnancy and a child’s early years, including health, safety and early childhood education.
“The Pregnancy & Infancy Summit invites expectant parents and mothers and fathers of young children to gain valuable information about pregnancy and child development, along with expert advice about health and wellness,” said Deborah Berry-Toon, executive director of Project Self-Sufficiency. “We are excited to be able to offer an opportunity for these families to gain the information and resources they need to become successful parents.”
Representatives from Project Self-Sufficiency’s Nurse-Family Partnership team, Center for Family Services and Zufall Health Center will also provide information and guidance. Organizers said the summit will explore free and reduced-cost activities available to families in the area.
Through a grant from the New Jersey Department of Children & Families, attendees will receive free baby items, including infant supplies, comfort care items for mothers and toys designed to support early childhood development. Professional photographer Julian Huarte will offer complimentary photos for parents and children.
A light breakfast and lunch will be provided.
The summit complements Project Self-Sufficiency’s existing programs for pregnant women and parents of young children, including home visitation services, Baby Beginnings events, Mommy Parties and Parent Cafes.
