Lane closures scheduled this week at Portland-Columbia, Delaware Water Gap Toll Bridges

Temporary daytime lane closures are scheduled this week at two Delaware River toll bridges as part of ongoing engineering work, officials said.

The closures will affect the Portland-Columbia Toll Bridge, which carries Routes 611, 94 and 46, and the Delaware Water Gap Toll Bridge on Interstate 80.

At the Portland-Columbia bridge, flagger-controlled alternating single-lane traffic will be in place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Tuesday.

At the Delaware Water Gap bridge, an eastbound lane closure into New Jersey is scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, with one of two lanes remaining open. On Thursday, the westbound left lane into Pennsylvania and the Express E-ZPass facility will be closed during the same hours. Motorists will be directed to use the adjacent former cash toll lanes.

Officials said the restrictions are needed to allow engineering consultants to conduct work related to the design of future open-road, all-electronic toll collection systems at the two bridges.

Motorists are advised to reduce speeds and use caution in the work zones.

Officials said the schedule is subject to change due to weather, emergencies or other factors. Any travel delays are expected to be minor.
