Man arrested after gift card scam attempt at Morris County store

DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A New York man was arrested after a gift card scam attempt at a store in Denville Township, according to police

On June 19, at around 2:10 p.m., police responded to a local business on a report of a man who was attempting to commit a gift card scam, police said.

Officers subsequently located and stopped the suspect’s vehicle after it had left the store. During the course of the investigation, it was discovered that the suspect, who was identified as Peiye Huang, 44, of Brooklyn, NY, was in possession of over 1,000 unused gift cards in varying denominations, police said.

Huang was arrested and charged with criminal attempt at theft by deception. He was then released pending a court appearance, police said.

The incident remains under investigation, police said.
