Man arrested after six-hour standoff in Warren County, faces weapons and assault charges

POHATCONG TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — A Warren County man was arrested Friday morning following a six-hour standoff with police after allegedly assaulting and threatening a victim with a firearm, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

Police responded around 4:45 a.m. to Manor Road, where officers said they found a victim who had been physically assaulted and threatened at gunpoint. The suspect, identified as 50-year-old Ian M. Walker of Phillipsburg, refused repeated commands to exit his residence, authorities said.

Due to the nature of the call and Walker’s refusal to come out, tactical units from multiple agencies were deployed to the scene. After approximately six hours and repeated attempts to make contact, Walker left the residence around 10:45 a.m. and was taken into custody without incident.

Investigators executed a search warrant at the residence and reported seizing several firearms and ammunition.

Walker was charged with a disorderly persons offense of simple assault for injuring the victim. He also faces a third-degree charge of terroristic threats for threatening to kill the victim with a firearm. In addition, he was charged with fourth-degree aggravated assault for pointing a firearm at the victim, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose for pointing the firearm, and third-degree certain persons not to possess a weapon.

If convicted, Walker faces up to 10 years in state prison for the second-degree offense, up to five years for each third-degree offense, and 18 months for the fourth-degree offense. The disorderly persons charge carries up to six months in the Warren County Correctional Center.

He was lodged in the Warren County Correctional Center pending his first court appearance.

The investigation was led by the Pohatcong Township Police Department with assistance from the New Jersey State Police Technical Response Bureau, the NJSP Crisis Negotiation Team, the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office, the Warren County Tactical Response Team, and police from Lopatcong, Greenwich, and Washington townships.
