Man barricades himself in Morris County home; removed safely by sheriff’s SERT team, police say
PEQUANNOCK TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A man who police said threatened a family member and barricaded himself inside a room of a Pequannock Township residence was taken into custody without incident and transported for evaluation after a response that included a perimeter and road closures, authorities said.
Pequannock police said they received the report about 7:30 a.m. Jan. 14. Police said the man had access to knives, locked himself in a room inside the home and was experiencing a mental health crisis.
Officers responded and, after an initial assessment, secured the home, established a perimeter, closed local roads and notified nearby residents “out of an abundance of caution,” police said.
The Morris County Sheriff’s Office and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office were notified and responded with specialized units to assist, police said.
The man was safely removed from the home by members of the Morris County Sheriff’s Office SERT team and transported for evaluation, police said. No additional information was released.
