Man charged with bias crime in vandalism of Somerset County mosque

BRIDGEWATER TOWNSHIP, NJ (Somerset County) – A Somerset County man has been charged with vandalizing a mosque in Bridgewater Township, according to Bridgewater Township Chief of Police John B. Mitzak.

On Friday, July 19, at around 6:34 p.m., Julian A. Dale, 29, of Somerville was allegedly seen driving a black Honda Civic bearing New Jersey registration onto the property of the Al Falah Center, located at 881 US Highway 2020/206. He then parked near the entrance to the mosque then left a short time later, Mitzak said.

Then at around 7:00 p.m. an employee of the mosque observed bias graffiti spray painted on a pillar near the main entrance to the building, Mitzak said.

On July 22, detectives located Dale, conducted an interview, and he was subsequently arrested. He was charged with fourht-degree bias intimidation and criminal mischief, Mitzak said.

Dale was lodged in the Somerset County Jail pending a detention hearing, Mitzak said.
