MORRISTOWN, N.J. (Morris County) — A man has been arrested and charged after two parking safety devices were damaged along South Street in Morristown, police said.
The man was arrested Thursday and charged with fourth-degree criminal mischief, an indictable offense, according to the Morristown Bureau of Police.
Police had previously asked for the public’s help identifying two people of interest after two “Safety Sticks” were damaged along South Street.
The town recently partnered with Municipal Parking Services Inc. to launch a pilot initiative using the devices in designated no-parking zones along South Street. The initiative is intended to improve safety for pedestrians and motorists following ongoing complaints.
Morristown patrol officers discovered two of the devices lying in the roadway during the early morning hours of Sept. 5, according to police.
A review of available surveillance footage showed two people walking together on South Street at about 11:19 p.m. Sept. 4 when a male allegedly forcibly dislodged the Safety Sticks, rendering them inoperable, police said.
Police subsequently sought the public’s assistance in identifying the two people.
“We thank all members of the public who provided information that helped lead to the quick resolution of this case,” police said.
No additional information about the man arrested was provided.
