DENVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A 21-year-old Union County man was arrested after allegedly attempting to elude police officers investigating reports of a reckless driver who was traveling on the wrong side of the road and nearly causing crashes in Denville Township, authorities said.
Canye H. Culver, 21, of Elizabeth, was charged following an incident on Thursday, Oct. 22, at approximately 7:15 a.m., according to the Denville Police Department.
Police said officers received complaints about a black Chrysler 300 being driven recklessly on Franklin Avenue during the morning hours. Callers reported that the vehicle was traveling on the wrong side of the roadway and nearly causing motor vehicle crashes.
Officers responded to the area and located the vehicle, observing the driver committing several traffic violations. When officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop, the driver allegedly attempted to elude them before eventually stopping on Swenson Avenue, police said.
Officers identified the driver as Culver, who was arrested and transported to Denville Police Headquarters for processing.
Culver was charged with eluding and obstruction and issued motor vehicle summonses for reckless driving, careless driving, improper passing, failure to maintain lane, failure to signal, failure to notify authorities of an address change and having a noisy muffler.
Following processing, Culver was released pending a future court appearance in Morris County Superior Court.
