MONTGOMERY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Somerset County) — A 29-year-old Belle Mead man has been charged with possession of child sexual abuse material following an investigation in Montgomery Township, Somerset County authorities said.
Somerset County Prosecutor John P. McDonald said the New Jersey State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force notified the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office in January of multiple CyberTipline reports from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The reports involved files depicting the sexual abuse or exploitation of a minor that were allegedly stored in an online cloud-based account.
Detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Unit launched an investigation and identified Brett Ajamian as being associated with the account, authorities said.
On Jan. 27, detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office and the Montgomery Township Police Department executed a Superior Court search warrant at Ajamian’s Belle Mead residence. During the search, investigators seized electronic devices for further forensic examination, officials said.
Later that day, detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Computer Crimes Unit and members of the Branchburg Police Department took Ajamian into custody in Branchburg without incident. He was charged with third-degree possession of child sexual abuse material and transported to the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office for processing.
Authorities said Ajamian was lodged at the Somerset County Jail and later released following an appearance in Superior Court.
Prosecutor McDonald thanked the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office for its assistance during the early stages of the investigation.
