JEFFERSON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A 59-year-old Lake Hopatcong man has been arrested and charged with sexually assaulting a child multiple times in Jefferson Township, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.
Sivaldo A. Gonzalez Vasquez is charged with three counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, three counts of second-degree sexual assault, one count of second-degree endangering and two counts of third-degree witness tampering.
Jefferson Township police notified the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office on Sept. 11 of a potential sex crime involving a child.
Authorities allege Vasquez committed multiple sexual acts against the child on multiple occasions between May 4 and Sept. 5 in Jefferson Township.
Investigators also allege Vasquez attempted to interfere with the investigation by instructing a witness and the victim not to speak with law enforcement.
Vasquez was arrested Sept. 11. He is being held at the Morris County Correctional Facility pending future court proceedings under the Criminal Justice Reform Act.
He is scheduled to appear before Judge Robert Hanna on Oct. 19.
Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll acknowledged the Jefferson Township Police Department and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Sex Crimes/Child Endangerment Unit for their work on the investigation.
