BOONTON TONWSHIP, NJ (Morris County) — A Clifton man has been convicted of multiple child sex offense charges following a three-day trial in Morris County Superior Court, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll.

Brian Stewart, 42, formerly of Clifton, was found guilty on May 23, 2025, of several offenses stemming from an internet child exploitation investigation that began in March 2024.

Stewart was convicted of three counts of second-degree luring, two counts of third-degree endangering the welfare of a child, one count of second-degree attempted endangering the welfare of a child, and four counts of second-degree attempted aggravated sexual assault.

The case was tried before Superior Court Judge Robert M. Hanna, who scheduled sentencing for July 25, 2025. Stewart will remain in custody pending sentencing.

At sentencing, the attempted endangering and attempted aggravated sexual assault convictions will be subject to the No Early Release Act, meaning Stewart must serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. He will also be required to register under Megan’s Law and will be subject to Parole Supervision for Life.

The case began on March 22, 2024, when the Boonton Township Police Department received a referral related to possible internet child exploitation. An investigation revealed that Stewart engaged in sexually explicit online conversations with individuals he believed to be minors and attempted to lure them to a public location for the purpose of engaging in sexual activity.
