Man dies after boat takes on water on Delaware River in Warren County

BELVIDERE, N.J. (Warren County) — A Pennsylvania man died after his boat began taking on water in the Delaware River in Warren County, according to New Jersey State Police.

Troopers responded May 1 to a reported vessel accident near South Foul Rift Road in Belvidere, State Police spokesman Trooper II Christopher Postorino said.

Authorities said Robin M. Bet, 69, of Bangor, Pennsylvania, was in the river when his boat began taking on water. Bet attempted to swim to shore but drowned, police said. He was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The incident remains under investigation, and no additional information was immediately available.

Bet, known as “Noni” to family and friends, was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and often traveled for fishing trips, according to his obituary. He was participating in a shad fishing tournament on the Delaware River at the time of the incident.

Born in Easton, Pennsylvania, Bet was a 1975 graduate of Pen Argyl High School and worked as a diesel mechanic for PennDOT until his retirement. He was active in several local organizations and spent years coaching youth sports and attending family events.

Family members said he was known as a “jack of all trades” who enjoyed spending time with his daughters, grandchildren and extended family.
