Man dies after head-on crash in Hunterdon County, police say

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A 79-year-old Plainfield man died Tuesday after a head-on collision on Sergeantsville Road in Raritan Township, according to police.

The Raritan Township Police Department said officers were dispatched at approximately 5:33 p.m. May 12 to the area of 108 Sergeantsville Road for a reported motor vehicle crash involving a Honda Civic and a Ford Bronco.

Police said the driver of the Ford Bronco, a 33-year-old Lambertville man, was alert and outside the vehicle when officers arrived. Authorities said he did not appear to suffer physical injuries.

The driver of the Honda Civic was found unconscious and unresponsive inside the vehicle, police said.

Authorities said officers removed the driver from the vehicle and began life-saving measures after observing what appeared to be severe injuries.

According to an eyewitness account provided by police, the Honda Civic was traveling northbound on Sergeantsville Road when it abruptly drifted into oncoming traffic and collided head-on with the Ford Bronco.

Paramedics continued life-saving efforts while transporting the driver of the Honda Civic to Hunterdon Medical Center, where he later was pronounced dead, police said.

The Raritan Township Police Department and Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office are continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.
