Man driving under the speed limit gets arrested for DWI in Sussex County
SPARTA TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – A Sussex County man was arrested for DWI after police say he was driving under the speed limit in Sparta Township.
On Sunday, Aug. 11, at around 1:48 a.m., an officer was patrolling the area of Sparta Avenue when the officer noticed a vehicle driving southbound failing to maintain a single lane of travel and driving approximately 10mph under the posted speed limit, police said.
The officer then stopped the vehicle and met with the driver, who was identified as Raymundo Hernandez, 45 of Franklin. While Hernandez was speaking, the officer allegedly detected a strong odor of an alcoholic beverage emanating from his mouth, police said.
While speaking with Hernandez, the officer suspected that he had consumed alcoholic beverages and was showing signs of impairment. He then performed a series of field sobriety tests and upon completion of the tests, he was arrested for DWI, police said.
After completing breath testing, Hernandez was issued summonses for driving while intoxicated, careless driving, failure to keep right, failure to maintain lane, and overdue inspection, police said.
Hernandez was released to a sober adult pending a court appearance, police said.
