Man faces weapons, drug charges after Route 22 traffic stop in Hunterdon County
CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A Pennsylvania man faces multiple weapons and drug charges following a traffic stop last month in Clinton Township, police said.
Authorities said the stop occurred March 15 on Route 22 West near Cokesbury Road after an officer assigned to a driving while intoxicated enforcement detail observed a white Toyota Tacoma committing several traffic violations. A check of the vehicle’s registration revealed it was suspended due to insurance cancellation.
Police identified the driver as Aaron M. Morin, 38, of Northampton, Pennsylvania. He initially declined a request to search the vehicle, officials said.
A K-9 unit responded to the scene, and the police dog alerted to the presence of narcotics. A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of two loaded handguns, two shotguns, multiple gun magazines, ammunition, containers of marijuana, suspected methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia, according to authorities.
Morin was taken into custody at the scene, and his vehicle was impounded. He was transported to police headquarters for processing.
He is charged with multiple offenses, including unlawful possession of handguns and shotguns, possession of hollow-point ammunition, possession of a high-capacity magazine, possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended registration, operating a vehicle while in possession of controlled dangerous substances, being an uninsured motorist, failure to maintain a lane and having an open container of cannabis in a vehicle.
Morin was later transferred to the custody of the Hunterdon County Sheriff’s Office.
