Man facing drug, weapon charges in Morris County
ROCKAWAY BOROUGH, NJ (Morris County) – A Morris County man is facing a slew of charges after his alleged distribution of cocaine and a handgun in Rockaway Borough, according to Acting Morris County Prosecutor Bradford Seabury,
Between April 24 and Aug. 21 Santiago J. Escobar, 32, of Rockaway Borough allegedly distributed over 5 ounces of cocaine, a Taurus handgun, and hollow nose bullets in Rockaway, Seabury said.
As a result of this investigation, on Sept. 3 approximately 100 grams of cocaine, several pounds of marijuana, over $1,000 of suspected narcotics proceeds, and scales and baggies commonly used to distribute CDS were seized by investigators, Seabury said.
Escobar has been charged with first-degree possession with intent to distribute cocaine in an amount of five ounces or more, second-degree conspiracy to distribute cocaine in an amount of five ounces or more, second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun, fourth-degree unlawful sale of a handgun, fourth-degree possession of hollow nose bullets, fourth-degree unlawful sale of hollow nose bullets, six counts of second-degree possession with intent to distribute cocaine in an amount of one-half ounce or more, but less than five ounces, five counts of second-degree distribution of cocaine in an amount of one-half ounce or more, but less than five ounces, six counts of third-degree possession of cocaine, third-degree possession with intent to distribute marijuana in an amount more than one-ounce but less than five-pounds, fourth-degree possession of more than six ounces of marijuana, fourth-degree possession of drug paraphernalia with intent to distribute, and third-degree money laundering.
Escobar has been detained in the Morris County Correctional Facility pending a motion for pretrial detention, Seabury said.
The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Special Enforcement Unit, Rockaway Borough Police Department, Town of Boonton Police Department, Morristown Police Department, Roxbury Township Police Department, Dover Police Department, FBI-Newark Division, and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office assisted in the investigation.
