Man found guilty of aggravated manslaughter in fatal 2022 Warren County crash that sent pickup into home

BELVIDERE, N.J. (Warren County) — A Warren County jury on Friday found a Washington man guilty of aggravated manslaughter and several related offenses in connection with a 2022 crash in which his pickup truck became airborne and slammed into the second story of a home, killing a passenger and injuring the residents inside, according to the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office.

John C. Nunn, 31, of Washington, was convicted of first-degree aggravated manslaughter; second-degree death by auto; second-degree aggravated assault; and two counts of third-degree assault by auto.

The charges stem from a Feb. 6, 2022, crash on County Route 57 near Butler Park Road. Washington Township police responded to the scene after a pickup truck operated by Nunn crashed into the second floor of a residence. Investigators determined Nunn had been driving while intoxicated when the vehicle left the roadway and became airborne.

A passenger, Tyler Balog, died from his injuries, and occupants of the home were seriously injured, authorities said.

Superior Court Judge H. Matthew Curry presided over the trial. Nunn was remanded to the Warren County Correctional Center pending sentencing, scheduled for Jan. 23, 2026.

Nunn faces up to 30 years in New Jersey State Prison on the first-degree aggravated manslaughter conviction. Second-degree offenses carry five to 10 years, and third-degree convictions carry three to five years.

The State was represented at trial by Senior Deputy Attorney General and Acting Supervising Assistant Prosecutor Kevin Brotzman and Senior Deputy Attorney General and Acting Assistant Prosecutor Joseph Dellera. Prosecutors commended Brotzman, Dellera, and Detective Lisa Salerno for their work, as well as the Washington Township Police Department, the Warren County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the New Jersey State Police Laboratory.
