Man killed by falling tree branch in Morris County backyard

MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — A 67-year-old man died Thursday after being struck by a falling tree branch at a residence in the Budd Lake section of Mount Olive Township, authorities said.

Police responded to the home April 9 following a report of a man hit by a tree. Upon arrival, officers found the victim in the backyard pinned beneath a large branch.

The man, whose identity was not released, was unresponsive and appeared to have suffered serious injuries earlier in the day, police said.

Atlantic EMS and St. Clare’s paramedics attempted lifesaving measures, but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Mount Olive Police Department’s Investigations Division and the Morris County Sheriff’s Office assisted at the scene.
