Man killed in fiery crash on I-78 in Hunterdon County

CLINTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) – A Union County man was killed early Thursday morning in a single-vehicle crash on Interstate 78 in Clinton Township, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Jeffrey Lebron.

Troopers responded to the scene at approximately 2:13 a.m. on I-78 westbound near milepost 21.8, Lebron said.

A preliminary investigation found that a Hyundai Kona was traveling westbound when it veered off the left side of the roadway, struck a tree, overturned, and became engulfed in flames, Lebron said.

The driver, identified as Isaiah Hunter, 49, of Plainfield, sustained fatal injuries in the crash, Lebron said.

The crash remains under investigation. No further information was immediately available.
