Man sentenced for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute in Sussex County

NEWTON, NJ (Sussex County) – A Hudson County man was sentenced for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute, according to Acting Sussex County Prosecutor Carolyn Murray.

Jerome Cherry, 57, of Jersey City was sentenced on Aug. 22 before the Honorable Michael C. Gaus, J.S.C. at the Sussex County Courthouse in Newton, Murray said.

Cherry was sentenced to seven years state prison with a credit for 772 days jail already served. He must submit a DNA sample and pay $2,205 in mandatory fees and penalties, Murray said.

Cherry pled guilty to second-degree possession of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute that methamphetamine, Murray said.

These charges arose from an investigation in June and July of 2022 by the Sussex County Guns, Gangs and Narcotics Task Force along with the Newton Police Department.

Cherry was represented by Gracia Montilus, Esq. and the State was represented by Special Deputy Attorney General/Acting Assistant Prosecutor Jerome Neidhardt.
