Man sentenced in connection with 2024 Morris County fatal crash
ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – An Essex County man has been sentenced in connection with a fatal motor vehicle crash that occurred on May 31, 2024, in Roxbury Township, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert Carroll.
On February 14, Gerald Veneziano, 41, of Belleville, was sentenced to six years in New Jersey State Prison, subject to the No Early Release Act (NERA). He is also required to pay $8,961 in restitution to the victim’s family.
Veneziano pleaded guilty on Jan. 6 to second-degree reckless vehicular homicide and driving while under the influence, according to Carroll.
The crash occurred on Friday, May 31, 2024, at around 10:30 p.m. on Howard Boulevard, Carroll said.
The investigation revealed that a northbound 2021 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Veneziano, collided with a southbound 2019 Mazda 3, driven by Jacob Davis, 19, of Flanders, Carroll said.
Davis was pronounced dead at the scene, Carroll said.
Veneziano was extricated and transported to Morristown Medical Center with serious internal injuries.
Numerous empty alcohol containers were found in the vicinity where the Silverado came to rest. Subsequent investigation revealed that Veneziano was under the influence of alcohol and was driving the Silverado at approximately 90 miles per hour at the time of the collision.
