Man sentenced to 10 years in prison for armed robbery at Morris County deli
DOVER, N.J. (Morris County) — A 29-year-old Wharton Borough man has been sentenced to 10 years in New Jersey State Prison in connection with an armed robbery at a Dover deli in June 2025, according to the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office.
Dwayne A. Brown was sentenced Oct. 16 by Superior Court Judge Robert M. Hanna after pleading guilty Aug. 27 to three counts of first-degree robbery.
According to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Brown received an aggregate 10-year prison sentence subject to the No Early Release Act, which requires him to serve 85% of his sentence before becoming eligible for parole. The sentence also includes restitution, an order prohibiting contact with the victims and forfeiture of his firearm.
The robbery occurred around 11 a.m. June 28, 2025, at a deli on Richards Avenue in Dover.
According to authorities, Dover police responded to the business after receiving a report of an armed robbery. An employee told investigators that a masked man entered the deli, approached a customer standing at the counter and grabbed the customer’s arm while pointing a handgun at him.
The man then pointed the handgun at two employees behind the register and demanded money. The employees handed over $360 before the robber left the deli, authorities said.
Investigators subsequently determined that the suspect fled the area in a vehicle following the robbery.
Brown was taken into custody June 29, 2025, following further investigation and was charged in connection with the robbery. He remained detained at the Morris County Correctional Facility pending the resolution of his case.
Carroll acknowledged the agencies involved in the investigation, including the Dover Police Department, Wharton Police Department, Morris County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, and the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Special Operations Division.
