Man seriously injured after vehicle strikes tree in Sussex County, state police say

HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Sussex County) — An 81-year-old Newton man was seriously injured in a single-vehicle crash late Tuesday morning, according to New Jersey State Police.

Troopers responded at about 11:56 a.m. to County Road 626 east near milepost 0.3 in Hampton Township, NJSP spokesman Trooper II Christopher Postorino said.

A preliminary investigation found that Thomas S. Valleau was driving a Hyundai eastbound when he lost control of the vehicle, left the roadway and struck a tree, Postorino said.

Valleau sustained serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital, authorities said.

The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information was available.
