Morris County firefighter injured during training exercise

WHIPPANY, NJ (Morris County) – Hanover Township Fire District #2 confirmed that one of its firefighters sustained injuries during a scheduled training exercise on the evening of May 6 at the Hanover DPW Complex, located at 15 North Jefferson Road, Fire Chief Paul Perrello said.

At approximately 8:47 p.m., the firefighter was injured while participating in a routine drill. On-site emergency personnel responded immediately, and the injured firefighter was transported to Morristown Medical Center for treatment, Perrello said.

Perrello emphasized the department’s commitment to safety, stating, “The safety and well-being of our firefighters is always our top priority. We are closely monitoring our colleague’s condition and will ensure he receives the best possible care. We are also reviewing the incident thoroughly to understand exactly what occurred and to reinforce our commitment to the highest safety standards in all training operations.”

As of this release, the firefighter is in serious but stable condition and is receiving care, surrounded by family and fellow department members, Perrello said.

The department expressed gratitude for the community’s outpouring of support and requested continued thoughts for a full and swift recovery.
