Morris County honors Zufall Health for 35 years of service to region

MORRISTOWN, N.J. (Morris County) — The Morris County Board of County Commissioners this week honored Zufall Health as the organization celebrates 35 years of providing medical, dental and supportive services across northern and central New Jersey.

Several representatives from the organization — including David Woods, senior vice president of External Affairs; Bill Shuler, chair of the Board of Directors; and Tracey Blackwell, a Zufall Health Foundation board member — attended the commissioners’ public meeting in Morristown to accept the recognition and offer updates on the nonprofit’s continued growth.

“On behalf of the Board of County Commissioners, I want to thank the entire Zufall team — the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers — for carrying Bob and Kay Zufall’s legacy forward,” Commissioner Director Tayfun Selen said as he presented the Resolution of Honor. “Your compassion and dedication make a real difference in the health and well-being of families across our region.”

Founded in 1990 as the Dover Free Clinic by Dr. Bob and Kay Zufall, the organization has expanded from a small volunteer effort into a federally qualified health center serving Morris, Essex, Hunterdon, Middlesex, Somerset, Sussex and Warren counties. Zufall Health now offers medical, dental, behavioral and supportive services to individuals of all ages, particularly those who face financial, geographic or social barriers to accessing care.

Morris County partners with Zufall through Community Development Block Grants and through its Office of Aging, Disabilities and Community Programming, which helps seniors who require additional support and funds dental care for uninsured residents. Zufall also collaborates with the county on the annual Point-in-Time count to improve outreach to residents experiencing homelessness.

County officials congratulated Zufall Health on its 35th anniversary and praised the organization for growing from a one-room clinic into a trusted regional network providing essential health services to thousands of families.
