Morris County man, 61, arrested for sexual assault of a juvenile

MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A 61-year-old Morris County man was arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted a juvenile in Montville Township, according to Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll.

Juan A. Fernandez of Towaco was charged with three counts of first-degree aggravated sexual assault, five counts of second-degree sexual assault, second-degree endangering the welfare of a child (sexual conduct), second-degree endangering the welfare of a child (abuse/neglect), and two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual contact.

It is alleged that Fernandez performed multiple sexual acts on a juvenile male victim from the time the victim was 6-years-old until he was 16-years-old. The investigation began in March of 2024, Carroll said.

“The incident remains under investigation and no further information will be released at this time. The name and identity of the victim will not be released,” Carroll said.

Fernandez was remanded to the Morris County Correctional Facility, pending a hearing on a motion for detention that the State has filed. The detention hearing will be heard on April 17, Carroll said.
