
Morris County man accused of biting, headbutting Macy’s employees, pulling knife during shoplifting
WAYNE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Passaic County) – A Dover man was arrested following a reported shoplifting incident that escalated into a robbery involving a knife at the Macy’s store in Willowbrook Mall in Wayne Township, authorities said.
Officers responded to the store on July 5 at approximately 12:33 p.m. after receiving reports of a shoplifter who allegedly brandished a knife and assaulted store staff, police said.
Upon arrival, officers found the suspect already detained by Macy’s loss prevention officers. Store personnel told police the suspect had been observed placing fragrance merchandise into a backpack and attempting to leave the store without paying. When confronted, the man allegedly bit and headbutted the employees before pulling a knife from his pocket, according to police. He was eventually subdued and restrained by loss prevention staff.
The suspect, identified as Orlando Ocampo Gallo, 50, of Dover, was taken into custody and found to be in possession of two fictitious Social Security cards and a counterfeit U.S. permanent resident card, police said. The documents were seized as evidence.
Ocampo Gallo was charged with robbery, shoplifting, unlawful possession of a weapon, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, aggravated assault, and possession of false government documents. He was processed on a complaint warrant and transported to the Passaic County Jail Intake Hub pending a detention hearing.
