Morris County man charged with drug-impaired driving, weapons offenses in Bloomingdale
BLOOMINGDALE BOROUGH, N.J. (Passaic County) — A 31-year-old Morris County man faces drug and weapons charges following an investigation into a possibly impaired driver who allegedly struck a guardrail and left the scene in Bloomingdale Borough, according to police.
Officers responded to the area of Macopin Road at about 7:58 a.m. Aug. 8 after receiving a report of a possibly intoxicated driver who had struck a guardrail and left the area.
During the investigation, officers located a black Audi that had traveled on Hamburg Turnpike and pulled over, police said. As officers approached, they allegedly saw the vehicle nearly drive into a residence before they were able to safely stop it.
The driver was identified as David Ross, 31, of Pequannock Township.
Officers observed several signs that Ross was possibly under the influence of alcohol or drugs and administered field sobriety tests, according to police. Ross was subsequently arrested on suspicion of driving while under the influence.
A search of the vehicle allegedly uncovered a large quantity of pills, including Adderall and Xanax, as well as suspected cocaine, police said. Officers also reported finding two BB-caliber rifles and two handguns, some of which were loaded.
A drug recognition expert from the Wanaque Police Department assisted with additional testing and evaluation before Ross was processed at Bloomingdale Police Headquarters.
Ross was charged with multiple motor vehicle and criminal offenses, including driving while under the influence of narcotics, possession of narcotics, distribution of narcotics and possession of a firearm for an unlawful purpose, according to police.
Ross was remanded to the Passaic County Jail pending a court appearance.
