Morris County man sentenced to four years in prison for possession of child sexual abuse material
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) — Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, Chief of Detectives Robert M. McNally, and Mount Olive Chief of Police Michael Spitzer announced the sentencing of a Mount Olive Township man on child exploitation charges.
Jose A. Lousa, 62, of Mount Olive Township, was sentenced Sept. 5, 2025, to four years in New Jersey State Prison after pleading guilty in May to one count of second-degree possession of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), according to authorities. Upon release, he will be required to register under Megan’s Law and comply with a Special Sentence of Parole Supervision for Life.
Lousa’s plea came after a jury trial before Judge Ralph Amirata ended in a hung jury on April 30, 2025. He later entered the guilty plea on May 12, 2025, before the same judge.
The investigation began when Homeland Security Investigations Newark – Child Exploitation Group identified possible CSAM activity on a BitTorrent site in Morris County. Authorities said BitTorrent, a peer-to-peer file-sharing network, contained numerous media files depicting the sexual exploitation or abuse of minors that were accessible for download. The site was linked to Lousa’s residence, and investigators recovered more than 1,000 files of CSAM.
Prosecutor Carroll credited the collaborative efforts of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, Homeland Security Investigations Newark, the New Jersey State Police, Mount Olive Township Police Department, and Boonton Township Police Department for their work on the case.
