Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Deputy Chief of Investigations Jan-Michael Monrad retires
MORRISTOWN, N.J. (Morris County) — Morris County Prosecutor’s Office Deputy Chief of Investigations Jan-Michael Monrad has retired following a law enforcement career that included more than two decades with the Prosecutor’s Office.
Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll, First Assistant Prosecutor Maggie Calderwood and Chief of Detectives Robert McNally honored Monrad for his service during a retirement luncheon July 31.
Monrad graduated from the University of South Carolina with a degree in criminal justice and business administration before graduating from the 45th class of the Morris County Public Safety Training Academy.
He began his law enforcement career with the Boonton Township Police Department, serving as a patrol officer and detective.
Monrad joined the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office in 2002 and served in the General Investigations, Special Enforcement, Domestic Violence, Intelligence/Homeland Security and High-Tech Crimes units.
He was promoted to detective supervisor in 2015, sergeant in 2016, lieutenant in 2018 and captain in 2021. As a supervisor, Monrad commanded the Special Operations and Tactical divisions.
He was promoted to deputy chief of detectives in July 2023.
During his tenure with the Prosecutor’s Office, Monrad was involved in narcotics, homicide, sex crimes, burglary and missing persons investigations.
He also testified in the State v. Jose Feliciano and State v. Kashif Parvaiz homicide trials, where cellular communications and data assisted in the arrests of the defendants, according to the Prosecutor’s Office.
Monrad was recognized as an expert in electronic surveillance and conducted more than 1,000 lawful intercepts of communications.
He taught courses on electronic surveillance on behalf of the Morris County Prosecutor’s Office, New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice, County Prosecutors Association of New Jersey, County Narcotics Commanders Association of New Jersey, Middle Atlantic-Great Lakes Organized Crime Law Enforcement Network, New Jersey Narcotics Enforcement Officers Association and FBI.
Monrad also held certifications as a Certified Forensic Computer Examiner through the International Association of Computer Investigative Specialists and as a tactical emergency medical technician. He also served as commander of the Tactical Narcotics Team and Rapid Deployment Team.
Prosecutor Carroll said, “Deputy Chief Monrad was a dedicated and talented law enforcement professional who provided decades of service to our communities. His leadership and broad skill set enabled him to share an extensive knowledge of investigative experience, and he generated a positive spirit to the personnel with whom he served. The Morris County Prosecutor’s Office sincerely thanks Jan for his many years of service and on a personal note, I wish to express my appreciation for all his efforts in our current administration and to his fine family who supported him during his career”.
