Morris County to conduct aerial mosquito larvicide treatment Friday in eight municipalities
MORRIS COUNTY, N.J. — The Morris County Division of Mosquito Control will conduct an aerial mosquito larvicide treatment by helicopter Friday morning in eight municipalities to reduce high populations of mosquito larvae in standing water.
The treatment is scheduled to begin at 6 a.m. Friday, July 31, weather permitting, in Chatham, Chatham Township, East Hanover, Florham Park, Hanover, Lincoln Park, Montville and Parsippany.
Officials said the operation targets mosquito larvae, the immature stage of adult mosquitoes, found in aquatic habitats and standing water. The treatment will not target adult mosquitoes.
The larvicide being applied is VectoPrime FG (EPA Registration No. 73049-501), which contains the active ingredients Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis and (S)-methoprene.
County officials said the treatment is being conducted because of high populations of larval mosquitoes in aquatic habitats throughout the affected areas.
