Morris County woman injured, 2 killed in wrong-way crash on Garden State Parkway

PARAMUS BOROUGH, NJ (Bergen County) – A Morris County woman was injured and two people were killed in a wrong-way crash on the Garden State Parkway in Bergen County early Friday morning, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Sergeant Jeffrey Lebron.

The crash happened at around 2:27 a.m. on the Garden State Parkway southbound at milepost 163.4 in Paramus Borough, Lebron said.

A  preliminary police investigation revealed that a Honda passenger vehicle, driven by Diana J. Cruz, 38, of Newark, was traveling northbound against the flow of traffic on the parkway south and a Toyota SUV, driven by Sunday T. Ogundare, 55, of Newark, was traveling southbound on the parkway when the Honda collided head-on with the Toyota, Lebron said.

As a result of the crash, Ogundare and Cruz sustained fatal injuries. The passenger of the Toyota, a 20-year-old woman from Pompton Plains, sustained moderate injuries and was transported to an area hospital, Lebron said.

The crash remains under investigation and no additional was information available, Lebron said.
