Motorcyclist charged after eluding police in Morris County

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Morris County) – A motorcyclist has been charged after allegedly eluding police in Washington Township on Saturday.

On May 10, an officer attempted to stop a motorcycle on Schooley’s Mountain Road after observing the operator driving aggressively, violating traffic laws, and committing multiple other infractions. The motorcyclist failed to comply with the officer’s instructions and refused to pull over, police said.

After a short distance, the rider crossed the double yellow lines and illegally passed several vehicles in an attempt to evade the officer. Due to the circumstances and concern for public safety, the officer discontinued the pursuit, police said.

Shortly afterward, Hackettstown police located the motorcycle within their jurisdiction, though the operator was not present. The motorcycle was impounded by the Washington Township Police Department in connection with the earlier incident, police said.

The registered owner, a female resident of Jersey City, was contacted by the agency. Shortly thereafter, the operator—identified only as a 35-year-old male, also of Jersey City—was located. He was interviewed and allegedly admitted to operating the motorcycle in Washington Township at the time of the incident, police said.

He was issued multiple motor vehicle summonses and charged with second-degree eluding a law enforcement officer. He was released pending a court appearance.
