Mount Olive breaks ground on new health center, marking major step in expanding community services
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Mount Olive Township marked a major milestone Monday as officials broke ground on a new health center that local leaders say will expand access to public health services and strengthen the community’s long-term wellbeing.
The project, years in the making, stems from the township’s 2019 Community Health Assessment, a yearlong review in which municipal officials, health professionals and residents identified gaps in services and a growing need for expanded public health resources. Those findings led the township to pursue federal assistance through the Community Project Funding program, administered by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
As a result, Mount Olive was awarded $1,982,500 to build a 7,164-square-foot health center adjacent to the township’s Senior Center.
Township officials said the new facility will serve as a centralized hub for the Health Department, Health Clinic, Public Access and Social Services. The modern, fully equipped building is expected to improve access to essential health programs, expand outreach efforts and support a more coordinated approach to community wellness.
In addition to strengthening local services, the facility positions Mount Olive as a regional leader in shared public health initiatives. Officials said the space will allow the township to expand collaborations with neighboring municipalities and regional agencies to deliver cost-effective and coordinated care.
The project will also create new opportunities elsewhere in town government. Once the Health Department relocates, the existing municipal complex will gain space needed for a future expansion of the Police Department, improving operational capacity and enhancing public safety.
Township leaders said the project represents a significant investment in the community’s future, reflecting Mount Olive’s broader efforts to build a healthier, safer and more connected environment for all residents.
