Mount Olive council recognizes New Jersey Local Government Week
MOUNT OLIVE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — The Mount Olive Township Council has approved a resolution recognizing New Jersey Local Government Week, part of a statewide effort to highlight the role and impact of municipal government.
The council voted April 7 to join communities across the state in observing the weeklong event, which will take place April 12 through April 18.
Officials said the recognition underscores the importance of local government as the level of government closest to residents and one that has a direct daily impact on their lives. The initiative also aims to help residents better understand how local government operates and encourage greater public participation.
Mount Olive employs 195 workers, including 162 full-time and 33 part-time employees, who are responsible for providing public safety services, maintaining infrastructure, supporting recreation programs and guiding the township’s fiscal management and sustainability efforts, officials said.
Town officials said Local Government Week offers an opportunity to educate residents about municipal services and promote more informed civic engagement.
New Jersey Local Government Week is sponsored by the New Jersey State League of Municipalities and is designed to raise awareness about the importance of municipal government and its role in communities across the state.
