N.J. bill would have state recommend spring break dates for school districts
TRENTON, N.J. — Legislation introduced in the New Jersey Senate would require the state to recommend spring break dates for school districts to consider when setting academic calendars.
The bill, sponsored by Sen. Patrick J. Diegnan Jr., would direct the Commissioner of Education to annually provide suggested dates for spring break closures.
Under the proposal, school districts would not be required to adopt the recommended dates but would be expected to consider them when developing their schedules.
The commissioner would be required to notify districts of the recommended spring break timeframe by June 30 of the prior school year to assist with calendar planning.
If enacted, the law would take effect in the first full school year following its passage, though the commissioner could begin administrative preparations in advance.
