New 1.31-mile Waughaw Valley Trail opens in Morris County
MONTVILLE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Morris County and Montville Township officials gathered Tuesday to celebrate the opening of the new Waughaw Valley Trail, a 1.31-mile gravel hiking and biking trail in Montville Township.
Morris County Commissioner Tom Mastrangelo joined Montville Mayor Frank Cooney, members of the Township Council, Morris County Park Commissioners Stu Lasser and Doug Gabel, and residents for a ribbon-cutting ceremony marking the trail’s completion.
The new trail includes bridge crossings and was completed with $537,638 from the Morris County Trail Construction Grant Program.
The property where the trail is located was originally acquired in 2001 using Morris County Open Space funding.
Since 2016, the county’s Trail Construction Grant Program has awarded nearly $7.8 million to support the construction of more than 23 miles of trails throughout Morris County.
The program has also funded the design of an additional 15 miles of trails across the county.
