New Hope-Lambertville toll bridge reduced to single lanes for cashless toll conversion work

DELAWARE TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The New Hope-Lambertville (Route 202) Toll Bridge is limited to a single travel lane in each direction until further notice as work advances on converting the span to all-electronic tolling, the Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission announced.

The lane restriction allows contractors to dismantle the bridge’s former cash toll plaza and install a new overhead gantry outfitted with E-ZPass tag readers and license plate cameras. The system will enable tolls to be collected electronically, eliminating the need for cash payments.

Later stages of the project will include structural repairs to the bridge’s Pennsylvania abutment.

The bridge, which connects Solebury Township, Pennsylvania, and Delaware Township, New Jersey, remains open during construction. However, officials urge motorists to reduce speed and exercise caution while traveling through the work zone.

The Commission has not announced a completion date for the project.
