New Jersey-bound width restriction remains in place at New Hope-Lambertville toll bridge

LAMBERTVILLE, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — New Jersey-bound motorists using the New Hope-Lambertville Route 202 Toll Bridge should expect continued single-lane travel and an 11-foot width restriction as work continues near the bridge, officials said.

The bridge remains restricted to one travel lane in each direction. The 11-foot width restriction applies to the northbound, New Jersey-bound direction.

Several new traffic patterns have also gone into effect since a new open-road all-electronic tolling gantry came online June 24 on the Pennsylvania side of the bridge. Tolls are collected only in the southbound, Pennsylvania-bound direction.

The temporary travel restrictions will remain in place until further notice.

A Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission contractor is removing the final remaining section of the former cash-collection toll plaza at the bridge. The contractor is also reconstructing remaining portions of the bridge’s Pennsylvania approach to create a straightened four-lane route with two lanes in each direction.

Crews are also continuing repairs and improvements to the bridge’s Pennsylvania abutment.

Route 202 motorists approaching the bridge are urged to slow down, prepare for lane shifts, use caution and observe the northbound size restriction.

A roughly yearlong 10-foot width restriction in the southbound direction expired June 14. Southbound lanes now have a 12-foot width.
