NEW JERSEY — The New Jersey State Police is mourning the death of K-9 Zito, a 9-year-old German shepherd who served in patrol response and narcotics detection, according to NJSP.
Zito died Aug. 13 after serving alongside his handler, Trooper I. Nicholas Davis, with the New Jersey State Police K-9 South Unit.
During his nine years of service, Zito specialized in patrol response and narcotics detection, according to state police.
NJSP remembered Zito for his dedication, courage and loyalty throughout his career.
“Zito will forever be remembered as a dedicated public servant, loyal partner, and cherished member of the New Jersey State Police family,” state police said. “Rest easy, K9 Zito. You will be deeply missed.”
State police did not provide additional information about the circumstances of Zito’s death.
