NJ state trooper injured after tractor-trailer crashes into box truck, 4 state police vehicles on I-78 in Hunterdon County

UNION TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – A New Jersey State Police trooper was injured after a tractor-trailer collided with a box truck then smashed into four police vehicles on I-78 in Hunterdon County, according to New Jersey State Police spokesperson Detective Jeffrey Lebron.

On Oct. 11, at around 1:49 p.m., troopers were conducting a motor vehicle stop on the right shoulder of I-78 eastbound at milepost 15.4, Union Township, Lebron said.

A preliminary police investigation revealed that a Volvo tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound when it collided with an Isuzu box truck, Lebron said.

The Volvo tractor-trailer continued forward and subsequently struck a NJ State Police vehicle causing subsequent collisions with three other state police vehicles, Lebron said.

As a result of the crash, one trooper suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital, Lebron said.

The crash is under investigation and no additional information available at this time, Lebron said.
