NJ Transit offers new holiday travel deals, expanded kids-ride-free program

NEW JERSEY — NJ Transit is rolling out a series of holiday travel deals, including expanded kids-ride-free benefits and major mobile-app discounts, as the agency encourages riders to take advantage of seasonal promotions running through early January.

The agency announced the return of its popular “Bring a Friend” and “City Pass” offers, along with an extended Family SuperSaver program that allows up to two children age 11 and younger to ride free with each fare-paying adult through 2 a.m. on Jan. 5. More details are available at njtransit.com/holiday.

Under the “Bring a Friend for the Holidays” promotion, NJ Transit customers using the mobile app can “Buy One, Gift One” by purchasing four one-way tickets and entering a holiday promo code at checkout. All four one-way tickets must be activated on the same day, and the deal cannot be used for travel to Newark Liberty International Airport or on Metro-North or SEPTA services. Each rider may use only one code through Jan. 4.

Travelers heading to Philadelphia or Atlantic City can also use mobile-app promo codes to receive 40% off round-trip fares. The discount applies to up to four one-way tickets, which must all be activated on the same day. Each code can be used once per customer, and the promotion runs through Jan. 4.

Tickets purchased with promotional codes are non-refundable, non-transferable, and available only through the NJ Transit Mobile App.

In addition to the fare discounts, NJ Transit is celebrating the season by wrapping two buses and a Newark Light Rail vehicle in holiday graphics created in partnership with Audible, featuring the company’s new Newark retail and community hub, The Pillars.

Audible opened The Pillars in October at 33 Washington Street, near NJ Transit’s Broad Street Station and the Harriet Tubman Square Light Rail stop. The 15,000-square-foot space features local small businesses such as Tansy and Pooka Pure & Simple’s Bloom Bar, offering unique, locally sourced gifts for holiday shoppers.

NJ Transit reminded customers to plan ahead for holiday travel by checking schedules, purchasing round-trip tickets in advance, traveling light when possible, and using the NJ Transit Mobile App for service alerts and the seasonal promotions. Regular web ticketing remains available, though holiday discounts cannot be redeemed through that option.

Riders are encouraged to stay updated through the app and NJ Transit’s social media channels.
