NJDEP seeks public comment on proposed 2026-27 migratory bird hunting seasons

TRENTON, N.J. — New Jersey wildlife officials are seeking public feedback on proposed migratory bird hunting season dates and bag limits for the 2026–27 season.

The proposals were developed March 4 by the New Jersey Migratory Bird Season Selection Committee in coordination with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s Fish & Wildlife division.

Written comments on the proposed seasons will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. April 8 via email at njmigbirdpubliccomment@dep.nj.gov.

Submitted comments will become part of the public record for consideration at the New Jersey Fish & Game Council meeting scheduled for April 14 at 10 a.m. at the Assunpink Wildlife Management Area Central Region Office, 1 Eldridge Road, Robbinsville.

Members of the public will also be able to provide comments in person during that meeting.

Migratory bird hunting seasons are established annually in accordance with federal regulations under Title 50 of the Code of Federal Regulations, rather than through New Jersey’s State Game Code.

Officials said the meeting agenda, directions and information about virtual participation will be posted on the Fish & Game Council website three days prior to the meeting.
