Nonprofit PEACE NJ awarded Green Acres grant for Hackettstown project during statewide Earth Week celebration
HACKETTSTOWN, NJ (Warren County) – Governor Phil Murphy and Environmental Protection Commissioner Shawn M. LaTourette announced more than $131 million in Green Acres investments for parks, recreation, and open space preservation across New Jersey during the state’s Earth Week celebration.
Among the recipients is PEACE NJ, a local nonprofit, which was awarded a $399,000 grant to enhance the Douglas A. Blake Memorial Field Complex in Hackettstown..
PEACE NJ will use the grant to focus on invasive species management, streambank stabilization, and the removal of a concrete diving platform from the Musconetcong River floodway. This project will improve the ecological health of the area while providing a safer, more sustainable recreational space for the local community.
PEACE NJ, founded in 2021, is dedicated to promoting environmental awareness, sustainable practices, and outdoor stewardship. The organization works to engage diverse community members in conservation efforts through educational programs and volunteer-driven initiatives.
The Green Acres funding, approved by the Garden State Preservation Trust on April 14, is part of the Murphy Administration’s largest-ever Green Acres investment, totaling $695 million over time. These funds will support park development, land preservation, and open space projects throughout the state, benefiting communities in every county.
