NY state trooper injured in shooting on Southern State Parkway; vehicle with NJ temp tags sought

WEST HEMPSTEAD, NY (Nassau County) – A NY State Trooper was injured in a shooting on the Southern State Parkway Wednesday night, and authorities are now seeking a vehicle with NJ temp tags connected to the incident.

On Oct. 30, at around 11:45 p.m., a shooting occurred on the westbound Southern State Parkway near Exit 17 in West Hempstead, Nassau County, NY. The incident involved a New York State Trooper and a suspect who fled the scene, state police said.

The trooper sustained injuries but is currently in stable condition at a local hospital, state police said.

The suspect is described as a dark-skinned male who escaped in a black sedan, possibly a Dodge Charger, with New Jersey Temporary Tag 997636T. The vehicle is also noted to have custom matte gray dual exhaust tips.

The New York State Police are actively investigating the incident and urge anyone who may have witnessed the shooting or has information about the suspect or vehicle to contact them at 631-756-3300.
