Officer meets cyclist taking history for a spin outside Morris County general store

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Officers responding to a welfare check Saturday got an unusual surprise outside the Schooley’s Mountain General Store: a man pedaling a stationary bike on the roadside.

According to Washington Township police, the call came in on Sept. 20 about a person riding the exercise bike along the shoulder of the roadway. When officers arrived, they found the man doing exactly that.

Police later learned the cyclist travels across the tri-state area filming himself “biking” in front of historic and unusual landmarks. On Saturday, he picked the Schooley’s Mountain General Store as his backdrop.

“He decided that the Schooley’s Mountain General Store would be a great location, and we agreed,” the department said in a post.

“Never know who you are going to meet while out on patrol,” police added, sharing a photo of the man alongside Officer Lee.
